What is blues dance?
Blues dance is a family of African American vernacular dances that grew alongside blues music. Its movement history blends Central African, West African, and European influences on American soil after emancipation.
The dance is inseparable from Black cultural history and values: pulse, improvisation, musical conversation, grounded movement, and personal expression. We approach it with care, curiosity, and respect for the people who created it.
